This is the first step in pursuing fostering with UH4C. This class is led by our Executive Director. During this time, you will hear about the vision and mission of UH4C, how we started, and where we are today. You will be given information regarding state policies, as well as those policies specific to fostering with Uniting Hope 4 Children. You will not be able to attend any further training with UH4C or begin your home study until you have attended this session. This class is offered monthly and you can register by clicking here.
This paperwork includes your initial application, as well as information for Child Protective Services screenings, Financial Verification, and any Prior Service history of fostering or adopting. Your home study cannot begin until we have this paperwork and your background screening is clear. Completed paperwork can be returned to our office or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
This training is a state-required course to prepare you to meet the needs of children in foster care. This training is led by our UH4C staff. Topics include an Overview of the Child Protective Services and Foster Care system, Birth Family Connections, Partnership Parenting, Impact of Trauma on Child Development, Recognizing Abuse and Neglect, Managing Healthy Behaviors, and much more. All sessions of IMPACT must be complete before a home study can be finalized. Click here to register for upcoming IMPACT sessions.
The Family Development team will schedule at least three home visits with you and help you navigate through the paperwork to complete your home study. This will include things such as your family history, medical clearance and assessment, neighborhood and community information, and home safety inspections. Your Family Specialist will provide a checklist for you and show you how to access the online system for completing paperwork efficiently.
Once all documents are complete and your home study is finalized, your file will be reviewed by the Resource Development Director. If a decision for UH4C approval is made, your file will be sent to the Georgia DHS for state approval. Once this approval is received, your home will be officially open to accept a foster child. At this time, you will be contacted by the Case Management Team at UH4C to discuss possible placements.
